About Us

At Southwest Colorado DBT, we have taken on some hefty goals. First and foremost, we strive to provide compassionate and effective therapy that is rooted in an extensively research-based model. We are committed to upholding the standards of comprehensive DBT and to pursuing ongoing training in this model of therapy.

In addition, Southwest Colorado DBT was formed with a unique mindset of therapist wellness over agency profit. Each therapist has control over their own schedule with no expectations regarding the number of clients they see. This work can be emotionally exhausting, and a healthy and present therapist means better care for clients. There is no “person or people at the top” who are making passive income on the backs of those who do the frontline work. We believe that in the mental health and medical fields, the current accepted systems of care often lead to burnout, a loss of talent in the field, unethical practices, and in the end – a lower quality of care for clients.

Angela Calderon, M.A Ed.S., LPC

(She/They)

I attended University of Florida for my bachelors in Psychology and master degree in mental health counseling. I have been in the field since 2012, mainly working at community behavioral health centers. I first became interested in mental health after volunteering back in my home country and working with former child soldiers. As a result, I developed a deep interest in healing trauma, mental health and social justice.

I became interested in DBT after working with teenagers who experienced trouble regulating behaviors and emotions. No other treatment I had been trained on seemed to work as well as DBT does.  I completed my comprehensive training through the Linehan program, BTech in 2018. I facilitated multi-family skills groups and skills groups in schools for two years. In 2021,  I started private practice and recently joined SWDBT as a DBT team member and now as one of the DBT skills group facilitators. My clinical approach is informed by multicultural and social justice counseling. My personal and clinical experience in mindfulness also equipped me to be present and to help you develop and discover the power of awareness.

I am originally from Colombia, and have resided in the U.S for the past 22 years. I am fully bilingual and bicultural.  I currently live in Pueblo, CO with my husband, child and two rescue Great Pyrs. In my spare time, I love spending time in nature, traveling, dancing and being goofy with my 7-year old daughter.
